Bouquet Garni

However, typically the three most used herbs are Parsley, Thyme and Bay leaves. You can use any one of these herbs on their own, or make up your own combination of herbs to enhance the flavours of your creation.
The easiest explanation is to say that a "Bouquet Garni" is a bunch of freshly cut herbs held together by a length of string, and used in soups, stews, and other meat dishes.
Very often the chef will place the freshly cut herbs into a muslin bag, so as to easily remove them when required.
Some herbs used in a Bouquet Garni are:
-
Parsley (stalks included)
-
Bay leaves
-
Thyme
-
Rosemary
-
Peppercorns
-
Tarragon
-
Basil
-
Chervil
-
Burnet
How to use a Bouquet Garni:
Firstly, ether purchase or cut the herbs from your garden. Tie the herbs together as indicated above. Incorporate the bundle into a recipe by placing the Bouquet Garni into your pot or pan, alongside the other ingredients during the cooking process. This allows the herbs to release their essential oils and flavors into your meal. Once the dish is complete, simply remove the Bouquet Garni before serving. This method is particularly effective for enriching the taste of soups, stews, and sauces without leaving any herbal residue.
