What is a "Bouquet Garni" and how is it used in recipes.

Bouquet Garni - Recipes by Nadine Lloyd

However, typically the three most used herbs are Parsley, Thyme and Bay leaves. You can use any one of these herbs on their own, or make up your own combination of herbs to enhance the flavours of your creation.

How to use Bouquet Garni:

Firstly, ether purchase or cut the herbs from your garden.

The easiest explanation is to say that a "Bouquet Garni is a bunch of freshly cut herbs held together by a length of string, and used in soups, stews, and other meat dishes."

Very often, the chef will place the freshly cut herbs into a muslin bag, so as to easily remove them when required.

The herbs that are used in a Bouquet Garni are:

  • Parsley (stalks included)

  • Bay leaves

  • Thyme

  • Rosemary

  • Peppercorns

  • Tarragon

  • Basil
